For Your Information:
  • Breakfast and lunch will be in the cafeteria each day. Breakfast costs $1.00 and will be from 9:05-9:25. Lunch costs $2.00 and will be from 10:55-11:25. Your child may buy or bring their lunch from home.
  • We will have a daily snack which needs to be provided by the parents. Examples of healthy snacks are: pretzels, goldfish, fruits, veggies and dip, bagels with peanut butter, yogurt. You may send in a juice box or water bottle for snack. Colored water in open containers is not allowed and candy or sugary treats are not allowed.
  • The children will take a nap each day and cots are provided by Title 1. You are responsible for sending a towel/ small blanket for your child to sleep on which will be sent home each Friday to be washed and returned to school on Monday. Pillows and stuffed animals are not allowed for nap.
  • Our school day is 9:15 to 3:45 but children can start arriving at school at 8:45. We will have morning activities set out for the children to do from 8:45 to 9:15.
  • Three weeks out of each quarter we will have specials (physical education, music, art, and media) in the mornings from 9:30 to 10:00.
  • Every day we will have recess time for an hour (30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon) on our Pre-K playground. Tennis shoes are the best for playing at school but sandals with back straps are okay too. No flip flops for safety reasons.
  • I do not allow the children to bring stuffed animals or toys from home unless we are having a special activity such as a teddy bear picnic or show and tell. We have plenty of toys to share at school!
Family/School Partnership Days:
A wonderful part of the Title 1 Pre-K program is our family/school partnership days. I will be having parent workshops on a variety of topics to help you prepare your child to succeed in school. The workshops run for about an hour or so and include a "make and take" craft and a free book for your child to take home. Child care will be provided by my teacher assistant for our students during the workshop. You are strongly encouraged to attend these workshops and to find childcare for your other children so you can be an active part of the workshop instead of chasing after little ones. Here are the dates of the workshops so you can plan ahead:
  • 9/20
  • 10/25
  • 11/22
  • 1/31
  • 2/21
  • 3/7
  • 4/25
  • 5/30

Early Release Days:
Our program follows the Wake County Track 4 schedule and we have Early Release Days during the year. On these days, the children will NOT take a nap and will be dismissed at 1:15. After the children leave, the teachers have professional development workshops, so please be on time picking up your child if you carpool. Here are the dates so you can plan ahead:
  • 8/23
  • 9/27
  • 11/8
  • 2/14
  • 3/7
  • 3/28

You are welcome to celebrate your child's birthday at school with a special snack. Ideas for fun foods are cupcakes, ice cream cups, pudding cups, brownies, cookies, etc. Please do not bring in a whole cake as it is too hard to serve. If you would like to come in and take photos, you may do that by signing in at the office. We will have the special birthday snack during our regular snack time. Please let me know ahead of time about this so I can plan for it by sending a note in your child's folder or by emailing me.

End of Year Celebration:
Yes, we will celebrate all that we have accomplished in Pre-K with an end of year celebration. It will take place during the last week of June (the last week of school). We will not be wearing caps and gowns but the children will do a short program and receive certificates of completion from me.

As part of the Pre-K Title 1 program, I will be assessing your child using Creative Curriculum in the fall, winter, and spring. I will also use the PALS assessment at the beginning and end of the year. In addition to these formal assessments, I will frequently do informal assessments. Conferences are held twice a year, in November and May. You will receive a written report at that time as well as a mid-year report from me. If at ANY time, you wish to schedule a conference with me regarding your child's progress, you are welcome to do so.

I send home a weekly newsletter to parents in their child's folder. I will email as needed or make phone calls as needed as well. Parents need to communicate with me as well, especially if their is a change in transportation. If you have a question/concern or need to let me know something important, you can send a note in your child's folder, email me at ajones2@wcpss.net, or call the school at 919-570-2100 and leave a message. I will return your emails/phone calls as soon as I can, which may be during nap or after school.
